Job summary

Clean Energy in California seeks a senior automation engineer to design and program PLC/HMI control systems for electro-mechanical equipment. You will develop electrical schematics and I/O lists, support field commissioning, and collaborate with engineering to meet customer specs.

You will also create UL documentation and participate in FAT/testing. The role requires a Bachelor’s in Automation Engineering with 6–9 years of experience, strong PLC/HMI skills, and SCADA proficiency.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in automation engineering or related field; 6–9 years of related experience.
• 4+ years PLC and HMI design and programming for industrial equipment.
• Experience using SCADA; Siemens, Horner and/or Allen Bradley PLCs preferred.

Responsibilities

• Using control descriptions, I/O lists, electrical schematics, and drawings, creating PLC/HMI code for control of various electro-mechanical systems.
• Assist Field Commissioning and Service Technicians with start-up and troubleshooting of applied programming.
• Develop electrical, instrumentation and controls products and systems to satisfy customer specifications, contracts, and new business development.
• Create/review/modify electrical schematics, drawings, and I/O lists to ensure compliance with engineering standards and customer specs.
• Support design and manufacturing of machine control systems.
• Submit timely status reports to management on progress of assigned projects.
• Develop UL and other technical documentation for review and submittal to customers.
• Participate in equipment tests (FAT, assembly, installation, setup) to ensure conformance to design standards.
• Program troubleshooting, problem identification and resolution for PLC code.
• Estimate engineering time, materials and resources for proposed projects.
• Provide technical guidance to Purchasing on components, equipment, software, and services.
• Provide field support for installation, startup, troubleshooting, and ongoing maintenance.
• Design and develop PLC program standards for Clean Energy and its subsidiaries.
• Travel up to 20% domestically as needed.
