Job summary

Wunderlich-Malec Engineering, Inc. in Saint Louis, MO is seeking a Senior Controls Engineer to lead automation projects from concept through commissioning across Life Sciences, Food & Beverage, and Manufacturing sectors.

You will design control systems, develop architecture, program PLCs and HMI/SCADA, and mentor project teams while ensuring profitable execution on projects up to $1M.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Computer Science, or equivalent experience.
• 7+ years of experience in controls engineering.
• Proficiency with RSLogix/Studio 5000 PLC programming.
• Siemens Step 7 and/or TIA Portal experience is a plus.
• Experience with Rockwell platforms (FactoryTalk, PlantPAx).
• Ignition experience is desirable.
• familiarity with S88, OEE, MES, ERP is a plus.
• Electrical schematics and control panel design; AutoCAD proficiency.

Responsibilities

• Lead projects from concept to commissioning with clients and internal teams.
• Design and implement control systems using PLC, HMI, SCADA and DCS platforms.
• Develop control system architecture, select components, and create detailed schematics.
• Program controllers and visualization systems; build databases for historical data.
• Utilize VBA, .NET, SQL, and Python for HMI/SCADA development.
• Lead engineering teams and mentor junior staff; manage project plans and budgets.
• Oversee project execution up to $1M and ensure profitability.
• Occasionally serve as Project Manager and technical lead; travel 30-50%.
