Job summary

Jobtailor in the United States is seeking an experienced Controls Engineer to design, develop, and program controls and automation systems for power generation, utility, and microgrid applications.

You will integrate electrical systems and industrial communications, design interfaces between hardware, and collaborate with global teams to deploy MTU control systems on diesel generators and distributed energy assets.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering and 5 years of experience in Genset manufacturing or similar industry; or 9 years of relevant experience.
• Experience programming PLCs and structured text.
• Experience with device communication protocols (TCP/IP, Modbus, OPC UA, CAN bus).
• Ability to travel ~10% to customer/manufacturer sites.

Responsibilities

• Designs, develops, and programs controls and automation systems for power generation, utility, and microgrid applications.
• Integrates electrical systems and industrial communications for reliable operation of diesel generators and distributed energy assets.
• Architects control system platforms and designs interfaces between hardware (ECU’s, Gen control panels, PLC’s, HMIs).
• Collaborates with MTU controls system deployments and supports R&D developments and customized deployments.
• Coordinates with global teams and manufacturers to improve functionality and resolve issues.
• Provides control-related issue resolution and strategic planning for problem resolution.

Responsibilities

• This position is responsible for designing, developing, programming of controls and automation systems for power generation, utility, and microgrid applications.
• The role involves integrating Electrical systems and industrial communication systems to ensure reliable and efficient operation of diesel generators, and distributed energy assets.
• Be the architect for control system platforms.
• Leverage global knowledge base to support R&D developments and customized deployments.
• Design interfaces between various proprietary hardware (ECU’s, Gen control panels, PLC’s, HMI’s).
• Develop special customer applications with MTU controls system.
• Design controls system for R&D programs.
• Interface electrical and mechanical applications and systems with the MTU controls system.
• Work directly with controls and governor manufacturers to improve functionality and mitigate issues.
• Specify, design, validate, and maintain MTU control systems.
• Work within a global electrical engineering organization and coordinate with global team in respective projects.
• Assist all areas of company with controls related issues.
• Devise strategic plans for problem resolutions using facts and gathered data.
• Involve in development and validation of special customer projects as required.

Requirements
