Job summary

Rolls-Royce plc in Mankato, MN seeks a Controls Engineer Specialist to lead the architecture of control system platforms and HMI multi-touchscreen development for generator panels and SCADA cabinets. You will steer software development for sustainable solutions such as Microgrids, Battery Containers and Fuel Cells.

In this senior technical role you will coordinate MTU hardware interfaces with balance-of-plant systems, collaborate with global teams, and design, validate and maintain MTU control

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering with 7+ years in electrical/controls or 11+ years in related field.
  • Authorized to work in the US without sponsorship.

Responsibilities

  • Lead architect for control system platforms and HMI/touchscreen development for generator panels and SCADA cabinets.
  • Technical lead for controller software development for sustainable solutions (Microgrids, Battery Containers, Fuel Cells).
  • Define interfaces between MTU hardware (ECUs, control panels, PLCs) and balance-of-plant systems globally.
  • Develop customer-specific applications with MTU controls.
  • Design controls for R&D programs and validate MTU controls systems.

Controls Engineer Specialist

This position is a technical expert leading position in the researching, designing, and development of new products and interfacing the control systems related to systems operation. As well as being a lead for the development of software for sustainable solutions.

Key Accountabilities
  • Be the lead architect for both control system platforms and HMI multi touchscreen development platform generator panel and SCADA cabinets.
  • Be the technical lead for development of controller software development for sustainable solutions like Microgrids, Battery Containers and Fuel Cells.
  • Manage the specification of interfaces between MTU hardware (ECU's, control panels, PLC's) and the balance of plant systems such as switchgear and power distribution systems on a global level.
  • Develop special customer applications with MTU controls system.
  • Design controls system for R&D programs.
  • Interface electrical and mechanical applications and systems with the MTU controls system.
  • Work directly with controls and governor manufacturers to improve functionality and mitigate issues.
  • Specify, design, validate, and maintain MTU control systems.
  • Hardware responsibilities: voltage regulators, control panels, engine ECUs, PLC's, and other protective relays.
  • Work within a global electrical engineering organization and co-ordinate with global team in respective projects.
  • Assist all areas of company with controls related issues.
  • Devise strategic plans for problem resolutions using facts and gathered data.
  • Involve in development and validation of special customer projects and as required.
Basic Requirements
  • Applicants must be authorized to work for any employer in the U.S without sponsorship. We are unable to sponsor or take over sponsorship of an employment Visa at this time.
  • Bachelor's Degree in Electrical or Electronics Engineering and 7 years of electrical/controls or electronics engineering experience; or 11 years of electrical/controls or electronics engineering experience.
  • Ability and willingness to travel for business trips (20%).
Preferred Qualifications
  • Excellent technical knowledge of control systems for gas and diesel fueled power generation systems for continuous, standby and mission critical applications including subsystems such as switchgear, transformer stations / substations, grid interconnections and controls for island and microgrid solutions.
  • Excellent knowledge of power generation and distribution systems.
  • Excellent analytical abilities and creative problem-solving skills to quickly gather facts and draw conclusions when situations are extremely complex.
  • Excellent ability to read and interpret electrical schematics, line diagrams, ladder diagrams, point to point diagrams and shop drawings.
  • Excellent ability to work independently and effectively with others.
  • Excellent organization, planning and follow-up skills.
  • Strong leadership and negotiation skills.
  • Strong Computer Skills: AutoCAD LT, AutoCAD electrical, Programming (Programmable Logic Devices), MS Office and Bluebeam Revu.
