Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Senior Controller to lead enterprise-wide accounting, financial reporting, payroll, and accounts payable operations for a growing financial services organization. This leadership role will oversee accounting functions across multiple business entities, ensuring accurate financial reporting, effective internal controls, regulatory compliance, and timely month-end and year-end closings.

The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in mortgage servicing finance, including Controller-level responsibilities, MSR valuation, U.S. GAAP, financial audits, and team leadership. Candidates should have experience working with established financial institutions or large mortgage servicing organizations rather than primarily small banks or smaller mortgage firms.

Key Responsibilities
  • Lead accounting, payroll, accounts payable, and financial reporting operations across multiple business entities.
  • Oversee monthly and annual financial close processes, balance sheet reconciliations, cash flow management, and intercompany accounting.
  • Serve as the primary contact for external auditors, financial institutions, valuation firms, and regulatory bodies.
  • Manage Mortgage Servicing Rights (MSR) valuations and ensure compliance with applicable U.S. GAAP standards.
  • Lead budgeting, forecasting, internal reporting, debt reporting, and lender covenant compliance.
  • Establish and strengthen accounting policies, financial procedures, internal controls, and risk management practices.
  • Monitor banking activities, disbursements, and reconciliations while implementing appropriate fraud prevention controls.
  • Review contracts and business transactions to ensure accurate asset ownership determination and financial reporting.
  • Document and evaluate current and emerging accounting standards and their impact on business operations.
  • Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes, improve operational efficiency, and strengthen financial governance.
  • Lead, mentor, and develop the accounting team, promoting accountability and continuous improvement.
  • Partner with executive leadership and cross-functional teams to support strategic financial decisions.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting, Finance, or a related discipline.
  • CPA or equivalent professional certification strongly preferred.
  • 15+ years of progressive accounting and finance experience.
  • At least 10 years of senior-level accounting experience within mortgage servicing or related financial services, including Controller-level responsibilities.
  • Proven experience managing accounting teams and enterprise-wide financial operations.
  • Strong understanding of U.S. GAAP, MSR valuation, and investor reporting requirements, including Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac, and Ginnie Mae.
  • Experience managing external audits, internal controls, financial compliance, and regulatory requirements.
  • Hands-on knowledge of mortgage servicing platforms and ERP systems such as SAP, Oracle, or similar.
  • Strong understanding of cash flow management, financial planning, cost structures, and enterprise accounting operations.
  • Advanced Microsoft Excel skills and proficiency in standard Microsoft Office applications.
  • Excellent financial analysis, reporting, communication, and executive presentation skills.
Leadership & Core Competencies
  • Strong people management, team development, coaching, and performance management capabilities.
  • Excellent analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to manage multiple priorities and deliver results under tight deadlines.
  • Strong project management and cross-functional leadership abilities.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead organizational change and improve business processes.
  • High level of integrity, professionalism, attention to detail, and confidentiality.
  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to influence senior stakeholders and build effective working relationships.
  • Proactive, collaborative, and results-oriented approach.
