Job summary

Schnitzer West is seeking a Controller, Operating Investments to lead the property accounting function for a multi-entity portfolio, ensuring accurate financial reporting, internal controls, and disciplined cash management. You will oversee CAM estimates, reconciliations, and reporting to owners and lenders, partnering with management teams and external partners.

The role requires extensive CRE accounting experience, strong leadership, and expertise in GAAP.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance, or related field.
• Eight or more years of progressive accounting experience.
• At least three years of supervisory or team-lead experience.
• Commercial real estate property operations accounting.
• Advanced Excel skills and proficiency with enterprise or property accounting systems.
• Working knowledge of GAAP and ability to research accounting conclusions.
• Strong analytical, problem-solving, organizational, written communication, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to manage multiple legal entities, reporting calendars, ownership structures, and stakeholder requirements.

Responsibilities

• Lead accounting staff development and manage workloads across calendars and systems.
• Oversee monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes and journal entries.
• Review financial statements, reconciliations, and owner/lender reporting.
• Establish and manage monthly close calendar and reporting deadlines.
• Coordinate distribution of financial reports and cash-flow review meetings.
• Develop management reporting, variance analysis, and forecasting tools.
• Maintain interaction with senior directors, investment managers, and asset services.
