Job summary

Agenus, a public biotechnology company focused on immuno-oncology, seeks a hands-on Controller to support GAAP reporting and internal controls from its Lexington, MA site. The role partners with Finance, HR, Legal, and external advisors to ensure accurate financial disclosures and scalable processes.

The position requires 10+ years of progressive accounting experience, CPA, and deep SEC knowledge, with onsite work five days per week in Lexington.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field and CPA required.
• Public-company accounting and SEC reporting experience essential.
• 10+ years progressive accounting/finance experience, with prior Controller/Assistant Controller roles.
• Strong knowledge of U.S. GAAP, SOX, and internal controls over financial reporting.
• Experience working with external auditors and managing quarterly reviews and audits.
• Experience with complex accounting areas: equity, stock-based comp, warrants, debt, licenses, collaborations, and restructurings.

Responsibilities

• Lead monthly, quarterly, and annual close processes with timely financial statements.
• Oversee GL, journal entries, reconciliations, consolidations, and analyses.
• Manage accounting for R&D, clinical trial accruals, CRO/CMO and manufacturing costs.
• Oversee equity, debt, leases, and other complex financial instruments.
• Ensure accounting for financing, licensing, collaborations, milestones, and cost-sharing.
• Maintain and improve policies, close calendars, and documentation.
