Job summary

The Apollo Theater Foundation, Inc. is seeking a Controller to lead the finance function, own the month-end close, produce consolidated financial statements, and maintain general ledger integrity in partnership with the CFO.

You will supervise accounting staff, coordinate with external auditors, manage donor-restricted assets, and support board reporting. CPA preferred; nonprofit accounting experience highly valued; 7+ years in accounting with 3+ in a controller role.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of progressive accounting experience, including 3+ years in a Controller or senior accounting manager role.
• CPA strongly preferred and nonprofit accounting experience advantageous.
• Experience supervising accounting staff and coordinating with external auditors.
• Experience with consolidated financial statements and intercompany eliminations; donor-restricted assets.

Responsibilities

• Lead the monthly close process, ensure timeliness and accuracy of consolidated financial statements.
• Maintain general ledger, chart of accounts, and budget across systems.
• Oversee accounts payable, payroll, and internal controls; enforce segregation of duties.
• Coordinate external audits and Form 990 filings; manage PBC lists and timelines.
• Support board reporting and provide financial analysis for decision making.
