Project Overview

The Senior Control-M Engineer develops conceptual, logical, and physical IT engineering designs supporting infrastructure requirements across business and technical application projects. The role ensures availability, resiliency, and secure orchestration of mission-critical workloads and contributes to modernization initiatives including automation-first orchestration, jobs-as-code, API-driven integration, and multi-environment scheduling capabilities.

This is a senior-level role requiring deep engineering expertise, comprehensive platform knowledge, and strong operational judgment.

Key Responsibilities
Engineering & Platform Management
  • Install, configure, upgrade, and patch Control-M Servers and Agents across multi-site environments, including legacy on-prem, CoLo production, and CoLo non-production.
  • Design, implement, and maintain job scheduling workflows, workload orchestration, and user/security configuration.
  • Conduct operational health checks, monitor system performance, and ensure compliance with enterprise standards and audit/security requirements.
  • Assess testing requirements, prepare testing strategies, and develop implementation and transition plans.
  • Analyze and revise system logic, documentation, and technical standards as needed.
Operational Support & Troubleshooting
  • Troubleshoot and resolve complex hardware, software, OS, and networking issues impacting scheduling infrastructure.
  • Perform change and problem management using standard tools and National IT policies.
  • Complete customer service requests, including new agent deployments and environment setup.
  • Document issues, solutions, and workarounds in the maintained internal knowledge base.
  • Provide on-call coverage as required to support 24 7 scheduling operations.
Modernization & Strategic Initiatives
  • Support Automation API, jobs-as-code adoption, workflow modernization, vendor enhancements, and enterprise integration.
  • Provide engineering support for multi-environment orchestration tied to FRFS modernization.
  • Participate in modernization roadmap work including resiliency engineering, cloud-aligned scheduling, and advanced automation capabilities.
Leadership & Collaboration
  • Lead highly technical and complex engineering projects using FRIT/System resources.
  • Train technical staff on Control-M tools, platform functionality, and engineering standards.
  • Report solution gaps, platform issues, and resiliency risks to management.
  • Partner with business lines, infrastructure teams, security, and operations for cross‑functional alignment.
  • Participate in team meetings, issue review, prioritization, and continuous improvement activities.
Risk Management
  • Understand and apply risk management discipline in decision‑making while ensuring compliance with internal standards, audit guidelines, and the Information Security Manual.
Required Qualifications
  • Bachelor's Degree or equivalent experience.
  • 6 9+ years of relevant work experience in IT engineering, infrastructure operations, or workload automation.
  • Comprehensive knowledge of Control‑M administration, including:
    • Server and Agent installation/configuration
    • Job scheduling and workflow design
    • User access/security
    • Patch management and upgrades
  • Experience with Control‑M multi‑environment orchestration across on‑prem and CoLo environments.
  • Strong hands‑on experience with Linux/Unix and Windows Server administration.
  • Shell scripting experience with Bash and PowerShell, along with log analysis skills.
  • SQL skills and basic database troubleshooting with PostgreSQL or Oracle.
  • Networking fundamentals, including TCP/IP, ports, and firewall configuration.
  • Experience with Control‑M Configuration Manager and scheduling functions/user management.
  • Familiarity with ITSM tools, including ServiceNow and Jira.
  • Familiarity with monitoring tools, including Splunk and Dynatrace.
  • Strong documentation, root cause analysis, and problem‑solving skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal, negotiation, communication, and attention‑to‑detail skills.
Preferred Qualifications
  • Control‑M Automation API, Workload Archiving, and Application Integrator experience.
  • Advanced scripting with Python, CI/CD pipeline integration using Git‑based tools, or infrastructure‑as‑code using Ansible or Terraform.
  • Cloud platform exposure to AWS, Azure, or GCP, or Control‑M cloud deployments.
  • Advanced SQL, database tuning, and performance optimization.
  • Security integration experience with SIEM tools, SSL, or Venafi.
  • Experience with Agile, SAFe, or scaled enterprise delivery.
  • ITIL Foundation or BMC Control‑M certification.
