Job description

We are seeking a Senior Controls Engineer for our startup First Quality Tissue located in Defiance, OH. The Senior Controls Engineer will specify, design, implement, and maintain complex control systems and software on production equipment, solving intricate problems.

Principal Accountabilities / Responsibilities:

1. Lead controls engineering efforts for expansions and large capital projects.
2. Collaborate with OEMs, vendors, and contractors to design, install, integrate, and commission new equipment and process controls, including selecting and approving electrical and instrumentation components, reviewing control network designs, evaluating software, conducting acceptance testing, and resolving issues.
3. Specify Distributed Control Systems (DCS), PLCs, HMIs, servo systems, instrumentation, network components, and analysis software in line with FQT controls standards.
4. Design, modify, and troubleshoot software for DCS, PLCs, HMI, and servo controllers, ensuring quality and correctness.

Ideal Candidate Qualifications:

1. Bachelor’s degree in electrical, controls, mechanical engineering, or related field.
2. 7-10 years of relevant experience with proven results.
3. Experience in controls engineering, including control element specification, programming, and troubleshooting.
4. Proficiency with PLC hardware and software, DCS, and automation systems.
5. Experience with industrial control network design, setup, and troubleshooting.
6. Track record of executing large capital projects.
7. Strong communication, analytical, and collaborative skills, with the ability to simplify complex issues.
8. Computer skills including controls programming software, email, word processing, spreadsheets, and project management tools.
9. Supervisory experience is a plus.
10. Willingness to travel approximately 25%, including visits to engineering offices, vendors, and the expansion site. The role will transition to the new expansion site.
