Job summary

Gilbane Building Company in Dayton, OH is seeking a General Superintendent to independently manage all field operations on a project. The role is on-site daily and essential for coordinating trade contractors, budget, safety, and schedule to deliver high-quality results.

You will lead a team, develop work plans, enforce safety, and drive continuous improvement through collaboration with project partners and the operations excellence team. A senior superintendent background is preferred.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Construction Management.
• 10-15 years of experience on $30-$100 million commercial/industrial construction projects or multiple projects in a lead superintendent role.
• OSHA 30-hour certified
• STS-C Certification
• First Aid, CPR, AED, Stop the Bleed Training
• Or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Responsibilities

• Directs the day-to-day coordination of Gilbane’s trade contractors and their sub-contractors to ensure high-quality work that meets the approved project schedule.
• Manages the project budget for general conditions and site services.
• Develops, documents, and communicates the work plan regarding changes made in the field.
• Maintains a thorough understanding of contract documents to proactively anticipate potential problems.
• Obtains or verifies that subcontractors obtain all necessary permits for construction purposes.
• Acts as primary safety representative in the field and enforces safety compliance with all trades.
• Develops safety strategies and drives safety culture across all project personnel.
• Conducts maintenance and planning of “workarounds,” shutdowns and tie-ins.
• Establishes credibility among owners, trade contractors, unions, and other project partners by maintaining a fair and trustworthy environment.
• Resolves jurisdictional disputes with support from the Sr General Superintendent or Construction Executive.
• Leads contractor meetings on a regular basis.
• Maintains daily reports and documentation using software tools.
• Creates, manages, and updates the project schedule, creating and implementing contingency plans when necessary.
• Communicates schedule status, updates, and changes to project team and trade contractors.
• Plans, coordinates, and manages jobsite logistics.
• Develops the Quality in Construction (QIC) plan in partnership with the Operations Excellence team, oversees the plan and implements necessary changes.
• Manages Next150/Site Services material and crew needs.
• Trains direct report Field Engineers and Superintendents on project needs, construction knowledge, and business acumen.
• Assists in development, preplanning, and preconstruction/construction to write scopes of work and participate in buyout.
• Administers Time and Materials (T&M) tracking.
• Leads stretch and flex, daily huddle, and pre-task plans.
• Engages in the community, growing and fostering relationships in the local market.
• Collaborates closely with business development to ensure seamless integration with sales strategies including performance metrics on your assigned projects, pursuits, and client deliverables.
• Trains direct reports on processes, procedures, and completion of daily tasks.
• Manages workload and performance of direct reports, ensuring alignment with overall company standards.
• Fosters a positive and inclusive work environment to motivate and engage team members.
• Aids in communicating company and department strategy to direct reports.
• May be required to assist with tasks typically assigned to more junior positions
