Job summary

Granite Construction is seeking a Safety Specialist to support the administration of the Safety and Health Management System (SHMS) for a designated location. You will help ensure compliance with state and federal regulations and contribute to a safe work environment in a high production civil construction setting.

You will collaborate with internal teams, regulatory bodies, and health facilities while planning visits, trainings, and safety meetings.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Safety, Occupational Health or related field, or CHST preferred.
• Minimum 3+ years’ experience in civil construction safety environment.

Responsibilities

• Collaborate with project teams, owner reps, regulatory agencies, clinics to ensure strong working relationships.
• Plan project visits, safety orientations and training aligned with project needs and budgets.
• Promote engagement in safety programs and incident prevention efforts.
• Assist in implementing safety programs to meet strategic goals.
• Perform inspections, observations and audits to reduce incidents and protect employee health.
• Prepare and present safety meetings and training to improve hazard awareness.
• Engage in regulatory inspections and investigations to ensure compliance.
• Develop and review job hazard analyses to identify hazards and controls.
• Investigate near misses, incidents and claims to protect company interests.
• Conduct periodic checks to verify corrective actions are completed timely.
