Job description

Hours: Full Time- 35 Hours

Only candidates who are permanent in the Construction Project Manager title, or those who are reachable on the Open Competitive list #0169 or filed for the Open-Competitive Exam#3042 in November 2022 may apply. Please include a copy of your Notice of Results card or indicate if you are already permanent in the title. If you do not meet the previously mentioned civil service criteria, you will not be considered for an interview.

The NYC Department of Design and Construction, Borough Based Jails (BBJ) Division seeks a Senior Construction Project Manager. The selected candidate will manage complex capital commitment projects, review proposed projects, work with Sponsor Agencies, oversee projects from conception to close-out, and coordinate among various stakeholders. Responsibilities include developing schedules, supervising construction staff, addressing issues, reviewing change orders, and ensuring projects meet the Agency’s objectives.

Authorization to work in the United States is required. The NYC Department of Design and Construction does not sponsor visas. Applicants are responsible for meeting all requirements at the time of application.

Minimum Qualifications
  1. A high school diploma or equivalent and five years of full-time experience managing or inspecting construction projects with a total cost of at least $300,000 each year; or
  2. One year of such experience plus a baccalaureate degree in relevant fields; or
  3. One year of such experience plus a valid professional license (PE, architect, landscape architect); or
  4. A high school diploma plus two years of experience and a relevant degree to total five years of education and experience. Matriculation can substitute for experience at a rate of 30 credits per year, up to three years.

Candidates must specify details for each construction project they worked on, including description, time period, work performed, and project budget.

Driver license valid in NY required. Maintaining this license is mandatory for employment.

Additional experience requirements apply for Level II and Level III positions, including extra years of satisfactory full-time experience and license maintenance.

Preferred Skills

At least six years of experience in complex construction project management, schedule and cost management, with strong organizational, computer, verbal, and written communication skills.
