Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. in Columbia, MD is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Field Technician to travel to sites, perform basic soil and concrete tests, and supervise technicians to ensure work meets project specs.

Qualifications

  • 4+ years of relevant experience.
  • High School Diploma or Equivalent.
  • Thorough technical knowledge of testing requirements.
  • Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
  • Completed technical training.
  • Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make field recommendations and perform calculations for field tests and equipment.
  • Ability to multi-task and meet deadlines.
  • Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals.
  • Excellent attention to details.
  • Valid driver’s license and good-standing driving record.
  • Some travel will be required.
  • Willing to participate in and pass pre-employment screening including background, drug screening and driving record.
  • Ability to stand and walk throughout the day.
  • Lift/carry/push/pull up to 70 lbs.
  • Work outside in varying temperatures.
  • Occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull.
  • Work in environments with dust and fumes.

Who we are looking for:

The Senior Field Technician position is responsible for helping to ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests while supervising other technicians to verify the work is performed in accordance with project specifications.

What you’ll be doing:

  • Performs and supervises complex work tasks
  • Responsible for training and supervision of technicians and/or large projects
  • Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
  • Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided
  • Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations
  • Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues
  • Other duties as assigned
