Job summary

Froehling & Robertson, Inc. is seeking a Senior Construction Materials Testing Field Technician to inspect contractor work on-site at Columbia, MD, and to perform basic field soil and concrete tests while supervising other technicians to ensure compliance with project specifications.

The role requires 4+ years of relevant experience, a High School Diploma or equivalent, and ongoing certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or Equivalent is required.
• 4+ years of relevant field experience.
• Thorough technical knowledge of testing requirements.
• Certifications in soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry (ACI Level I, State DOT, WACEL, ICC) must be maintained.
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specs, and safety and operating manuals.
• Ability to perform field and lab tests and calculate quantities.

Who we are looking for:

The Senior Field Technician position is responsible for helping to ensure public safety by traveling to construction sites to inspect the contractor's work, and perform basic field soil and concrete tests while supervising other technicians to verify the work is performed in accordance with project specifications.

What you’ll be doing:

• Performs and supervises complex work tasks
• Responsible for training and supervision of technicians and/or large projects
• Lifting, carrying, pushing and pulling up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
• Preparing detailed and complete field reports with all relevant test results and inspections/observations provided
• Evaluating site and subgrade conditions on construction projects and providing recommendations
• Communicating with clients, contractors, and engineering and technician staff regarding construction issues
• Other duties as assigned

What you need to have:

• 4+ years of relevant experience
• High School Diploma or Equivalent
• Thorough technical knowledge of testing requirements
• Maintenance of ACI Level I Concrete, State DOT, WACEL, or ICC certifications in the disciplines of soils, reinforced concrete, and masonry.
• Completed technical training
• Ability to read and interpret plans, specifications, safety rules, operating and maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals
• Ability to apply basic mathematical formulas and concepts to calculate quantities, estimate volumes, inspect constructed work, make recommendations in the field and to perform calculations for field and laboratory tests and equipment
• Ability to multi-task and meat deadlines
• Ability to work independently and within cross-functional teams to achieve goals
• Excellent attention to details
• Valid driver's license and good-standing driving record
• Some travel will be required
• Must be willing to participate in and pass F&R's pre-employment screening including a background investigation, drug screening and driving record
• Ability to continuously stand and walk throughout the day
• Ability to lift, carry, push, and pull up to 70 lbs. on a regular basis
• Ability to work outside in frequent changes of temperatures
• Ability to occasionally bend, squat, kneel, climb, push, and pull
• Ability to work in environments containing dust and fumes
