We are seeking an experienced Senior Construction Lead to oversee complex, large-scale healthcare construction projects from an owner's perspective. This is a senior-level leadership position, responsible for guiding major capital projects and ensuring they meet the long-term operational, financial, and strategic needs of a healthcare organization.
The ideal candidate brings extensive experience leading ground-up hospital construction projects valued at $200 million or more, along with the ability to manage multiple stakeholders, navigate complex project challenges, and make decisions that prioritize long-term value over short-term cost savings.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide senior-level oversight of large-scale, ground-up hospital construction projects, including projects exceeding $200 million.
- Represent the owner's interests throughout planning, design, preconstruction, construction, and project closeout.
- Lead coordination among multiple construction managers, architects, engineers, consultants, and internal stakeholders.
- Partner closely with hospital facilities and operations teams to ensure construction decisions support long-term operational needs.
- Evaluate project budgets, schedules, risks, and construction strategies, providing direction on critical decisions.
- Apply lifecycle cost analysis to evaluate building systems, materials, and construction approaches, emphasizing long-term performance and value.
- Oversee project delivery while maintaining high standards for quality, safety, financial accountability, and schedule performance.
- Identify and resolve complex challenges involving design coordination, contractor performance, stakeholder expectations, and active hospital operations.
- Provide strategic guidance to executive leadership on project progress, risks, and major capital decisions.
- Build strong working relationships with contractors and project partners while maintaining accountability to the owner's objectives.
Qualifications
- 20+ years of progressive construction management experience, preferably including senior leadership responsibilities on major healthcare projects.
- Required: Direct experience leading ground-up hospital construction projects valued at $200 million or more. Medical office building experience alone does not meet this requirement.
- Proven experience managing complex healthcare projects involving multiple architects, construction managers, consultants, and stakeholder groups.
- Background as a Senior Project Manager, Project Executive, Director of Construction, or similar senior-level construction leader.
- Experience working for a general contractor, healthcare system, owner's representative, or program management firm.
- Strong understanding of construction delivery methods, budgeting, scheduling, risk management, and contract administration.
- Ability to evaluate construction decisions through an owner's lens, considering lifecycle costs, facility operations, maintainability, and long-term asset performance.
- Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with executive leadership, design professionals, contractors, and hospital operations personnel.
- Strong judgment, problem-solving skills, and the ability to lead through complex project challenges.
Ideal Candidate
This opportunity is well suited for a seasoned healthcare construction professional who has moved beyond managing individual projects and is ready to take greater ownership of major capital investments.
Successful candidates will understand the difference between delivering a project as a contractor and protecting the interests of the organization that will own and operate the facility for decades. They will bring the technical expertise to challenge construction decisions, the leadership skills to coordinate sophisticated project teams, and the judgment to recognize when the lowest initial cost is not the best long-term solution.
Relocation assistance may be available for qualified candidates.
