Job summary

The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) is seeking a construction inspector to assist the Project Engineer by leading a team of inspectors in concrete pavement, asphalt pavement, and related testing operations. The incumbent reports to the Construction Inspector Supervisor and will handle contract administration with minimal supervision.

This promotional opportunity requires meeting multiple education/experience criteria, including a high school diploma or equivalent

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED plus four years of inspection or maintenance experience.
• Six months of sub-professional engineering or heavy equipment experience plus four years of inspection/maintenance.
• Twenty-four semester hours in specified technical fields or related disciplines.
• Bachelor's degree in engineering or related construction fields.
• Engineer intern certificate.

Responsibilities

• Oversees contractor compliance with project specifications, safety signage, and quality standards; performs sampling, testing, calculations, and maintains project records.
• Manages project documentation, reviews constructability, uses engineering applications, and receives additional training as needed.
• Collects field data, prepares sketches, and calculates quantities following standard practices.
• Supports general construction office functions and ensures departmental efficiency and public interest protection.
• Performs additional duties including emergency or disaster response activities.

Education

High school diploma or GED plus four years of construction inspection or maintenance experience

Six months of sub-professional engineering or heavy equipment experience plus four years of construction inspection

Twenty-four semester hours in architecture, cartography, construction management, construction technology, drafting, engineering, engineering graphics, engineering technology, industrial technology, landscape architecture, math, or physics

Bachelor's degree in engineering, engineering technology, construction management, or construction technology
