Job summary

Harford County in Maryland seeks a Supervising Construction Inspector to lead inspectors I‑III and oversee all phases of major projects, ensuring compliance with County, State and Federal specifications including road, water, sewer, sediment control and stormwater rules.

The role combines field and office work, requires a Bachelor’s in Civil Engineering or related field, six years of progressive heavy‑construction and six years of supervisory experience, and a valid Class C driver’s license.

Qualifications

• Supervisory experience over Construction Inspectors I, II and III.
• Knowledge of civil engineering principles, surveying and construction methods.
• Ability to read and interpret engineering plans and specifications.
• Experience administering budgets and coordinating with multiple stakeholders.
• Strong oral and written communication skills and compliance with safety regulations.

Responsibilities

• Oversee inspections of all phases of construction projects per County/State/Federal specs.
• Issue stop-work orders when needed and coordinate with Public Works Director.
• Coordinate utility installations and relocations.
• Manage recruitment, hiring decisions and performance of inspection staff.
• Maintain inspection records and testify in court if required.
