Senior Construction Inspector

Ranked #50 on Engineering News-Record's Top 500 Design Firms, we are seeking a Senior Construction Inspector for our Virginia Beach Construction Management Team.

Position Overview

The Senior Construction Inspector will apply standard inspection procedures during and after construction to ensure structural quality, safety, and conformance to plans, specifications, and codes.

Essential Functions and Responsibilities

1. Review and interpret plans, site layouts, specifications, and construction methods for compliance and safety.
2. Perform routine tests on concrete, soils, and other materials.
3. Measure dimensions and verify levels, alignments, and elevations of structures and pavements.
4. Coordinate and supervise project inspection activities to ensure contractor compliance.
5. Manage and schedule inspection staff throughout project phases.
6. Draft project correspondence, facilitate meetings, and resolve field issues.
7. Maintain record documents and perform field notes and computations.
8. Interact with the public, government agencies, contractors, and other stakeholders.

Required Skills

• Client requested certifications.
• Strong computer proficiency.
• Active driver's license and successful completion of JMT's Motor Vehicle screening.

Required Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent (or relevant experience).
• 7+ years of roadway construction inspection experience.

Preferred Experience

• Associates or bachelor's degree in Construction Management or Civil Engineering.
• Supervisory experience in construction management/inspection.
• Ability to act as Owner's Agent or Responsible in Charge.

Working Conditions

Work is field-based, involving physical activities such as bending, kneeling, standing, shoveling, and lifting objects up to 25 lbs. Conditions may include heat, cold, wet, humid, or dry environments.
