Duties, Responsibilities & Other

• This is an entry-level position to perform quality control of VDOT Roadway and Bridges construction, including soils, concrete, asphalt, and aggregate testing to ensure contract compliance under supervision.
• Upon demonstrating required skills, candidates may qualify for more senior positions.
• Performs materials testing such as nuclear gauge soil and aggregate density.
• Reviews placement of and tests concrete deliveries per VDOT and ACI standards, including making cylinders for lab testing.
• Verifies construction compliance with drawings, specifications, and contract documents.
• Monitors and observes limited contractual fieldwork, including excavations, drainage, concrete placement, and pile driving, under supervision.
• Advises supervisors and contractors of non-conforming tests.
• Records field measurements and daily production/test results.
• Completes daily reports with testing forms.
• Receives and verifies materials delivery tickets.
• Works nearby on active highways, water/land bridges, marine barges, and tunnels; night shifts may be required.

Qualifications

• High School diploma; Associate's in Civil Engineering Technology or related field preferred.
• 0-2 years of experience required.
• Pre-employment drug screening; background and motor vehicle checks may be required.
