Job description

As a Senior Construction Inspector, you will be responsible for inspecting and reporting on virtually every phase of the construction process, including, but not limited to, civil (site work & utilities), roadway (asphalt and portland cement concrete paving, striping, signage, materials testing, traffic control, maintenance of way), structural; electrical, safety, and hazardous material abatement. You will ensure that all contract documents represented by working drawings and specifications are properly executed by the contractors. You are also accountable for establishing and maintaining a professional working relationship with architects, engineers, testing labs, general contractors, subcontractors, owners, and the general public, where applicable.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
  • Function within a matrix organization providing QA oversight and support across assigned projects.
  • Become familiar with all pertinent Contract documents as well as Project software and controls systems.
  • Participate in select meetings with field staff as needed including QA/QC Meetings, Pre-Installation Meetings, Follow-Up Inspections, etc.
  • Review BIM-360 process for Tracking Issues, Checklists and Daily Reports.
  • Track & report QA activities, results, and key performance indicators for master plan monthly reports.
  • Assist with coordination of required project acceptance testing.
  • Review QC programs and test & inspection plans and provide feedback.
  • Review & comment on critical testing & inspection reports including all results below required standards.
  • Perform materials inspection and acceptance prior to installation.
  • Identify potential problems and notify the contractor and project engineer of any potential problems.
  • Provide open and honest communication to staff and others as required, both oral and written, depending on the situation at hand. Work closely with leadership on dissemination of information.
  • Keep project engineer and supervisor abreast of progress throughout duration of assigned projects.
  • Responsible for job specific quality system tasks as defined in quality manual.
  • Compose, submit and log weekly status reports, weekly percentage completion reports, and daily reports to include: project conditions (i.e. trade manpower and work description), architectural and engineering communication and direction, general conditions, temperatures, weather conditions, general conditions and activities, site work, subcontractors and personnel, hours worked, description of work performed, equipment used, verbal discussions and oral instructions, phone conversations, visitors to site, job requirements, photos, videos, delays.
  • Provide daily photos of entire job site construction progress. When necessary, provide photos to verify pre-construction existing building and site conditions.
  • Post addenda to plans and specifications.
  • Maintain as-built drawings for the duration of the project.
  • Review critical submittals and shop drawings and provide feedback.
  • Document and share QA/QC lessons learned and best practices among projects.
  • Conduct unannounced QA audits of QC plans including documentation by field staff as well as direct field observations to achieve consistent application of standards across all projects.
  • Maintain satisfactory compliance with specifications and standards and maintain accurate records.
  • Verify noncompliance recommendations and issue QC noncompliance reports, including closeout confirmation.
  • Provide technical oversight and coaching of HCAA field staff in select QA focus areas in order to leverage QA effectiveness in the field.
  • Perform other duties as required.

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:

  • Thorough knowledge of construction practices, techniques, materials and related equipment.
  • Thorough knowledge of engineering plans, specifications, and drawings.
  • Proficient written and verbal communication skills needed for submitting extensive written reports and documentation; construction reports and logs are written and filed daily.
  • Must be able to work extended hours and weekends, as needed, with appropriate notification as work progresses and work schedules dictate.
  • Must be able to read and interpret plans and specifications and to compare them with various aspects of construction in progress, to detect errors in construction projects, establish and maintain effective working relationships with contractors, property owners and associates.
  • Must be able to perform specific installation tasks and field measurements.
  • Must have basic mathematical skills to assist with measurements and computations of installed quantities.
  • Must be able to interpret and implement company mandated safety policies.
  • Must have an ability to operate a level and have an understanding of cut and fills and elevations for grades.
  • Must be fluent in reading and writing English.
  • Must be able to operate a computer and computer software related to word processing and spreadsheets.
Required Experience

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

Education and Experience

  • High school diploma / General Equivalency Diploma (GED).
  • Bachelor's Degree in a relevant field of study is preferred.
  • 10+ years of experience inspecting construction.

LICENSURES, CERTIFICATIONS, AND REGISTRATIONS:

  • NICET, ACI, ICC certifications are preferred, but not required.
  • IMSA (International Municipal Signal Association) certification required.
  • Valid Florida Driver’s License required and maintain a Motor Vehicle Record (MVR) that meets company policy standards.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Frequently required to stand up to eight hours or more at a time.
  • Required to walk in rugged conditions.
  • Use hands to finger, handle, or feel objects, tools, or controls; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
  • Occasionally required to walk; sit; climb or balance; and stoop, kneel, crouch, or crawl.
  • Must frequently lift and/or move up to 50 pounds, and occasionally lift and/or move up to 125 pounds.
  • Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision, color vision, depth perception, and the ability to adjust focus.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

  • Frequently works in outside weather conditions.
  • Occasionally works near moving mechanical parts and is occasionally exposed to fumes or airborne particles and vibration.
  • The noise level in the work environment is often high.
  • Travel, evening, night, weekend, and holiday hours may be required.
