Job summary

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our team in Southeast Michigan. This field-heavy role requires you to perform inspections on transportation, bridge, and municipal projects, coordinating with owners, contractors, and designers to keep work on schedule and compliant.

Candidates must have 5+ years of highway/bridge inspection experience, necessary certifications, and a valid driver's license.

Qualifications

• Read and understand plans and specifications for inspection work items.
• Monitor and inspect construction projects for quality assurance.
• Ensure contractor compliance with plans, specs, methods, and codes.
• Track workers and equipment on projects.
• Review testing reports (soil, aggregate, steel, concrete, HMA, masonry).
• Document progress with site reports and photos.
• Monitor Critical Path Method schedule to keep projects on time.
• Facilitate communication among owners, contractors, and designers.
• Obtain and maintain project certifications (e.g., Traffic Control, MCA-ACI).

Overview

Colliers Engineering & Design is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Inspector to join our team in Southeast Michigan! Candidates must be located in SE Michigan to perform field work.

In this role, you’ll be part of a collaborative, field-focused group supporting transportation, bridge, utility, and municipal construction projects across the region. Our team partners closely with clients, contractors, and local agencies to solve challenges in real time, uphold quality and safety standards, and help bring important public infrastructure improvements from plan to completion.

Responsibilities

• Monitor and inspect construction projects, including quality assurance.

• Monitor construction schedule (Critical Path Method) to ensure project is on schedule.
• Facilitate communications between owners, contractors, and designers on a project.
• Obtain and maintain the required certifications for each project as needed (i.e., Traffic Control, Material Testing, EGLE Plan Review and Design, MCA-ACI) as well as complete client specific safety courses.

Qualifications

• High School diploma/GED required; Associate degree in engineering technology preferred.
• 5+ years of construction engineering & inspection experience related to highways, roadways, and bridges required.
• Minimum certifications in soil erosion, MCA-ACI, HMA, and Density required.
• Prior knowledge/experience with AASHTOWare or other digital inspection platforms.
• Valid driver’s license required.
• Knowledge of MDOT specifications is a plus.
• Experience with Bluebeam is a plus.
• Ability to read, write, and understand English for purposes of comprehending written job-related communications and verbal instructions and interactions.
