Job summary

AppleOne Employment Services is assisting a client in finding a Senior Construction Estimator with extensive water and wastewater facility experience for a full-time, on-site position. You will develop comprehensive estimates from plans and specifications for complex treatment facility projects.

Ideal candidates read civil, structural, mechanical, and electrical drawings, perform multi-scope takeoffs, and manage bid processes from start to finish.

Qualifications

• 7+ years of construction estimating experience in water/wastewater facilities.
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specs.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor procurement, vendor pricing, and bid analysis.
• Deep understanding of construction costs: labor, materials, equipment, subcontracted work.
• Ability to identify risk and develop sound estimating assumptions.

Responsibilities

• Prepare detailed estimates for complex water and wastewater treatment facility projects.
• Review and interpret plans, specifications, drawings, and contract documents.
• Perform and oversee quantity takeoffs across multiple trades and scopes.
• Develop labor, material, equipment, subcontractor, and self-perform cost estimates.
• Solicit, analyze, and level subcontractor and supplier proposals.
• Identify scope gaps, exclusions, assumptions, and project risks.
• Coordinate with project management, operations, engineering, subcontractors, and vendors during estimating.
• Participate in estimate reviews and final bid preparation.
• Evaluate construction means, methods, sequencing, and schedule considerations that impact project cost.
• Develop competitive and well-supported bids for significant water/wastewater projects.
• Support preconstruction activities and transition to project execution.

Senior Construction Estimator – Water & Wastewater Facility

Our client, a well-established and growing construction company, is seeking an experienced Senior Construction Estimator with a strong background in water and wastewater facility construction. This is a key estimating role supporting complex projects involving the construction, expansion, rehabilitation, and upgrading of complete water and wastewater treatment facilities. The ideal candidate has direct experience estimating projects across multiple construction disciplines and can independently develop accurate, comprehensive estimates from plans and specifications through final bid.

This position is best suited for an experienced estimator who has already built estimates for water/wastewater facility projects. Candidates whose experience is primarily project management or field supervision, without significant estimating responsibility, may not be the right fit.

This is a full-time, on‑site, direct hire opportunity, paying between $130,0000-$175,000 depending on experience.

What You’ll Be Doing:

Project Experience:

We’re particularly interested in candidates who have direct estimating experience with complete water or wastewater treatment facilities, rather than candidates whose background is primarily general construction, utility installation, or project management.

Relevant project experience may include:

• Water treatment plants
• Wastewater treatment plants
• Water reclamation facilities
• Treatment plant expansions and upgrades
• Pump and lift stations
• Municipal water/wastewater infrastructure
• Design‑build water and wastewater projects

Experience should include estimating across multiple scopes, such as:

• Structural and process concrete
• Building structures
• Process and utility piping
• Mechanical systems and equipment
• Electrical systems
• Instrumentation and controls
• HVAC
• Excavation, grading, and earthwork
• Underground utilities
• Site development and civil work

What We’re Looking For:

• 7+ years of construction estimating experience in water/wastewater treatment.
• Demonstrated experience developing estimates for large, multidisciplinary facility projects.
• Strong ability to read and interpret civil, structural, architectural, mechanical, and electrical plans and specifications.
• Experience with quantity takeoffs, subcontractor procurement, vendor pricing, and bid analysis.
• Strong understanding of construction costs, labor, materials, equipment, and subcontracted work.
• Ability to identify risk and develop sound estimating assumptions.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Proficiency with construction estimating software and Microsoft Office.
