Job summary

DGL Consulting Engineers, LLC is seeking a Senior Construction Engineer to coordinate construction management, administration and inspection services on diverse projects in Ohio. You will act as Resident Engineer or Project Inspector, manage daily site activity records, lead progress meetings and ensure contractor submittals and changes meet project requirements.

Ideal candidates hold a Civil/Construction Eng degree, ABET-accredited, plus ODOT/OTIC pre-qualifications and strong communication

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology from an ABET-accredited program.
• Experience with construction management, administration and inspection services.
• Pre-qualifications with ODOT/OTIC are required.

Responsibilities

• Work under supervision of a Project Manager or Senior team members.
• Serve as Resident Engineer and/or Project Inspector on construction projects.
• Coordinate with department leaders to understand project scope.
• Oversee daily inspection of work performed by the contractor.
• Record daily construction activities, quantities, contractor’s equipment and on-site personnel.
• Schedule and facilitate construction progress meetings.
• Review/approve contractor shop drawings and pay requests.
• Review/approve contractor change orders.
• Schedule and review material testing to ensure compliance.
• Coordinate with other engineers and surveyors; provide survey support as needed.
• Provide civil design/drafting support (Bridge/Site/Roadway/Traffic).
• Maintain safety certifications and client pre-qualifications (ODOT/OTIC).

Job description

POSITION INFORMATION

As a multi-disciplinary engineering firm, success in this position will require the ability to coordinate all aspects of construction management, administration, and inspection services as necessary. DGL is looking for a well-rounded Senior Construction Engineer to enhance the qualifications of our Construction Management Department.

• Reports to Director of Technical Services
• Full-time, Non-Exempt
• 4-8 years of previous experience in construction engineering

PRIMARY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES

Include but are not limited to the following:

• Work under supervision of a Project Manager or Senior-level Team Members
• Serve as Resident Engineer and/or Project Inspector on construction projects
• Communicate with Department leaders for understanding of project scope
• Oversee daily inspection of work performed by the contractor
• Record daily construction activities, quantities, contractor’s equipment and on-site personnel
• Scheduling and facilitating construction progress meetings
• Review/approve contractor’s shop drawing submittals
• Monitor overall project budget and review/approve contractor’s pay requests prior to submitting to owner for payment
• Review/approve contractor’s change orders
• Schedule and review material testing and make sure results are per project requirements and specifications
• Coordinate with other engineers and surveyors on project requirements
• Provide survey support as necessary
• Provide civil engineering design and drafting support (Bridge/Site/Roadway/Traffic) as necessary
• Obtain and maintain safety certifications and client pre-qualifications (ODOT/OTIC)

SKILL SET

• Experience with applicable computer software (Microsoft Office, MicroStation, AutoCAD, Primavera P6 Scheduling, AASHTOWare, GoFormz, etc.)
• Obtain and maintain ODOT/OTIC construction related pre-qualifications based on agency requirements (Construction Engineer Level 1, Construction Engineer Level 2, Project Inspector, Project Structure Inspector, Coatings Inspector, Traffic & Lighting Inspector)
• Strong written and verbal communication skills
• Proven success in delivering high quality project submittals
• Must be well organized
• Professional demeanor
• Ability to communicate effectively with all types of people
• Valid Driver’s License required with a favorable driver’s record

EDUCATION/CERTIFICATIONS

• Bachelor’s Degree in Civil or Construction Engineering Technology from ABET Accredited Institution
• ODOT/OTIC construction pre-qualifications are required
