Job summary

SC Executives in California is seeking a Controller to lead accounting for a growing construction organization, ensuring U.S. GAAP compliance, accurate project costing, and timely month-end close.

This role partners with operations and executive leadership to drive financial performance. The ideal candidate is a CPA with deep construction accounting experience, strong WIP and percentage-of-completion revenue recognition, and hands-on Microsoft Dynamics expertise.

Qualifications

• CPA required and active.
• 8–10 years of progressive accounting experience, construction focus.
• 5+ years leading accounting teams.
• Hands-on with project accounting, job costing, WIP reporting, and revenue recognition.

Responsibilities

• Oversee general ledger, AP, AR, payroll, fixed assets, cash management.
• Prepare monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements per U.S. GAAP.
• Lead month-, quarter-, and year-end close with calendars and controls.
• Develop, document, and maintain accounting policies, procedures, reconciliations, and internal controls.
• Prepare documentation for annual audits.
• Oversee project accounting across multiple construction projects and entities.
• Review project budgets, job costs, cost allocations, and profitability.
• Ensure correct accounting for change orders, retainage, and billings.
• Mentor and develop accounting personnel and maintain performance standards.
• Collaborate with project managers and operations to monitor financial performance.
