Job summary

SAIC seeks a highly experienced Computer Engineer to lead design, acquisition, and deployment of hardware and computing solutions for mission-critical environments. The role focuses on enterprise and edge computing, coordinating teams across government locations and ensuring systems meet security and interoperability requirements.

The position is onsite in San Diego, CA, with travel up to 10% of the CONUS/OCONUS area. Requires U.S.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree with 9+ years of experience, or Master's with 7+ years, or PhD/JD with 4+ years.
• U.S. Citizenship is required.
• Active Secret clearance to start is required, TS/SCI clearance after start is possible.
• Extensive experience in computer engineering, hardware engineering, systems integration, infrastructure engineering, or related disciplines.
• Experience designing, acquiring, building, integrating, testing, installing, and sustaining computer hardware and software solutions.
• Experience leading engineers or multidisciplinary teams for hardware acquisition and system integration.
• Strong understanding of computing hardware architectures, servers, workstations, storage, networking components, and infrastructure.
• Experience evaluating requirements and developing hardware solutions considering performance, interoperability, environmental, deployment, and operational constraints.
• Experience managing schedules, tasks, dependencies, equipment, and customer milestones.
• Experience developing and maintaining detailed technical documentation for hardware designs and configurations.
• Strong problem-solving and analytical skills with ability to collaborate across multidisciplinary teams.
• Strong written and verbal communication skills for technical direction and status updates.

Responsibilities

• Lead the design, evaluation, acquisition, integration, and deployment of computing hardware and supporting software for enterprise, edge, and mission-focused environments.
• Coordinate teams responsible for hardware acquisition, building, configuring, integrating, testing, installing, and sustaining solutions at government locations.
• Develop innovative computing solutions addressing operational requirements by evaluating small-form-factor computers, mobile servers, workstations, and edge platforms.
• Support IT and hardware architecture design and redesign, including system implementations, field changes, upgrades, and integration with existing infrastructure.
• Manage engineering schedules, tasks, dependencies, equipment requirements, and milestones to meet customer needs.
• Maintain hardware inventories with configuration, lifecycle, deployment data, and replacement planning.
• Create and maintain detailed engineering documentation: designs, configurations, BOMs, procedures, specs, and records.
• Provide senior technical guidance to engineers, stakeholders, and operations while troubleshooting complex challenges.
• Plan and execute installations, upgrades, and capability implementations meeting technical, cybersecurity, interoperability, and industry requirements.
