Job summary

Joby Aviation, based in Marina, CA, seeks a Senior Composite Materials & Process Engineer to lead material qualification for our eVTOL program. The role requires onsite presence and collaboration with stress, manufacturing, quality, and certification teams.

Required: a B.S. in a relevant field and 5+ years of experience in composites, with familiarity in ASTM/SACMA standards and strong writing capabilities. Preferred: an MS and aerospace experience.

Qualifications

• B.S. required in mechanical, aerospace or materials science.
• 5+ years of relevant industry experience in composites.
• Experience with composite parts fabrication and structural bonding.
• Familiarity with ASTM and SACMA standards.
• Strong technical writing, computer and presentation skills.

Responsibilities

• Own material qualification projects feeding the qualification program.
• Develop and implement FAA-mandated material qualification test plans.
• Write and maintain materials, process, and test specifications.
• Develop qualification plans and coordinate with labs for work orders.
• Analyze composite properties to optimize manufacturing processes.
• Screen and evaluate new materials and processes to improve throughput and reduce non-conformances.
• Interface with suppliers on materials issues and part fabrication.
• Mentor engineers and technicians on test methods and data interpretation.
