Job summary

Actalent is seeking a Senior Mechanical Design Engineer in Bingen, WA to lead the design of composite aerospace structures, including radomes and ground support equipment. The role focuses on maturing concepts into production-ready documentation and working with leadership to meet milestones.

Ideal candidates have 10+ years of experience in mechanical design within aerospace, expert SolidWorks skills, and a proven ability to create robust manufacturing documentation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or closely related discipline.
• 10+ years of mechanical design engineering experience.
• Demonstrated expertise in designing composite structures in an aerospace or aviation environment.
• Hands-on experience with composite radomes and aerospace structures.
• Advanced SolidWorks proficiency including part/assembly design, drawings, BOM development, and documentation.
• Strong understanding of composite materials and manufacturing methods.
• Experience creating production-ready engineering documentation.
• Ability to operate independently with minimal supervision.
• Excellent written and verbal communication for cross-functional collaboration.

Responsibilities

• Design and develop composite aerospace structures and assemblies with emphasis on performance and manufacturability.
• Develop radomes, composite components, and related hardware for advanced aircraft systems.
• Document ground support equipment and related mechanical systems.
• Create and maintain 3D CAD models, assemblies, and manufacturing drawings in SolidWorks.
• Develop BOMs and production-ready engineering packages.
• Convert concepts and prototypes into comprehensive documentation for suppliers and production teams.
• Apply GD&T and industry standards to supplier-ready drawings.
• Participate in design reviews with manufacturing and program management.
• Troubleshoot complex mechanical/structural design challenges in a fast-paced environment.
• Drive tasks independently while meeting schedule and quality requirements.
