Job description

6+ Month Contract | Potential Contract-to-Hire
San Francisco, CA | Hybrid, 2–3 days onsite per week
What This Position Will Be Doing

This role will support the Total Rewards team across benefits operations, Workday, compensation processes, documentation, and process improvement. The position is ideal for someone who is highly organized, comfortable working independently, and enjoys improving the way HR and Total Rewards processes operate.

A major focus will be taking ownership of recurring operational work while identifying opportunities to streamline and automate manual processes. Strong functional Workday experience is essential. Deep compensation expertise is not required for the right candidate; someone with a strong Benefits, HR Operations, or Total Rewards background who is interested in growing further into compensation could be an excellent fit.

Responsibilities
  • Own day-to-day Workday benefits and Total Rewards operations, including reviewing and processing benefits-related transactions, approvals, enrollments, and employee changes.
  • Audit and support compensation transactions in Workday, including promotions, transfers, requisitions, and compensation changes.
  • Partner with Benefits, Total Rewards, People Tech, Payroll, Finance, People Partners, and Talent Acquisition to resolve operational and data issues.
  • Identify repetitive or manual processes and help design, improve, and automate workflows, including areas such as new-hire processing, benefits approvals, equity-related processes, and other Total Rewards operations.
  • Build and maintain process documentation, SOPs, knowledge articles, and workflow documentation.
  • Support benefits compliance activities, vendor reconciliation, eligibility reviews, and Benefits-to-Payroll processes.
  • Assist with compensation reporting, data validation, salary surveys, salary ranges, and compensation grade maintenance.
  • Support the annual job catalog refresh, including updates to job data, compensation grades, mappings, and related documentation.
  • Respond to compensation and benefits data requests and investigate discrepancies through resolution.
  • Maintain organized tracking of recurring deadlines, requests, approvals, and operational deliverables.
  • Help improve the Total Rewards service model through better documentation, structured workflows, knowledge management, and automation.
  • Required
    • Hands-on functional Workday experience is required.
    • Experience in Benefits, Total Rewards, HR Operations, HRIS, compensation, workforce analytics, or a closely related area.
    • Strong experience working with benefits processes and employee data.
    • Exceptional organization and attention to detail with a strong commitment to data accuracy.
    • Strong Excel skills and comfort working extensively with spreadsheets and data.
    • Ability to independently manage multiple recurring processes, deadlines, and operational priorities.
    • Experience creating or maintaining process documentation, SOPs, or knowledge resources.
    • Demonstrated ability to identify inefficient processes and improve or streamline workflows.
    • Comfortable working cross-functionally while also being able to spend significant time independently working in systems and data.
    • Ability to work onsite in San Francisco 2–3 designated days per week.
What Are We Looking For Ideally

The strongest candidate will be someone who combines functional Workday experience, benefits or HR operations knowledge, strong organization, and a process-improvement mindset. We are looking for someone who does not simply execute an existing manual process, but looks for ways to make that process more structured, scalable, and automated.

Candidates do not need to be compensation experts coming in. Someone who has primarily worked within Benefits, Workday, HRIS, or Total Rewards operations and is interested in expanding into compensation could be a strong fit, particularly if they enjoy Excel, data analysis, and systems work.

Experience with Workday Benefits, Advanced Compensation, technical Workday configuration, workflow automation, equity administration, job catalog management, or job architecture is highly valuable but not required across all areas.
