Job summary

The Oregon Department of Human Services is seeking a Deputy Communications Director (CM2) to lead audience engagement, digital strategy, and media relations. You will mentor staff, shape ODHS communications, and partner with agency leaders to align priorities with organizational goals.

You will develop strategies using customer insights and performance data to improve awareness, accessibility, and user experience across services for diverse communities.

Qualifications

• Six years of supervision, management, or progressively related experience.
• Three years of related experience and a bachelor's degree in a related field.
• Valid driver’s license or alternate transportation.

Responsibilities

• Plan, launch, and oversee digital and traditional marketing campaigns to help Oregon residents discover ODHS services.
• Use analytics to track KPIs and inform strategies to improve engagement and accessibility of ODHS information.
• Guide the use of web, social media, multimedia and design to increase awareness and make services easier to navigate.
• Supervise and mentor staff, set expectations, delegate, and foster a collaborative environment.
• Champion clear, plain-language information reflecting ODHS service users’ experiences.
• Advise agency leaders on engagement, reputation, and crisis responses, including emergencies.
• Review and approve public-facing materials such as media responses and talking points.
• Improve workflows and manage vendor contracts to ensure timely, high-quality work.
