New America’s Re-Scripting Gender, Work, Family, and Care initiative seeks a versatile Senior Communications Associate to lead design, video, social media, and writing efforts. You’ll translate research into visuals, craft layouts and newsletters, shoot and edit short videos, and manage posts for varied audiences in the media-for-social-impact ecosystem.
Based in the United States with opportunities in Los Angeles or New York, this full-time role offers a comprehensive benefits package and room
Re-Scripting Gender, Work, Family, and Care, the entertainment initiative at New America, is part of the Thriving Families cluster, which focuses on family economic security and well-being. The entertainment initiative was founded in 2022 to leverage television and film storytelling to shape narratives and culture around gender equity, work-family justice, caregiving, and related topics. It produces materials, commissions research, and provides consultation to help creators and executives tell rich, meaningful stories that explore these topics, and amplifies television shows, films, and online media projects that treat these issues thoughtfully. The advice we provide and the resources we create are grounded in research, data, and expertise in the substantive topics on which we provide consultation.
The Senior Communications Associate will expand the initiative’s capacity to promote aligned projects and engage with creatives and stakeholders. Through graphic design, video production, writing, and social media management, the Senior Associate will play an important role in shaping how the initiative presents itself to its core audiences of creatives, executives, and others in the media-for-social-impact ecosystem. The ideal candidate is a versatile communicator and designer who is knowledgeable about design best practices, excited to make work for varied audiences and contexts, and engaged with television, film, and pop culture. The Senior Communications Associate will also support the team’s publications and related outreach efforts.
This position is a full-time role with benefits. The annual salary will be between $70,000 – $73,000, depending on experience.
Our preference is to fill this position on a full-time basis, but we are open to considering a fractional (part-time) arrangement for candidates with additional relevant experience who meet both the required and preferred qualifications for the role. Compensation for a fractional arrangement may differ from the posted full-time salary range and is determined by the candidate’s experience, qualifications, and agreed-upon work schedule. Benefits eligibility would depend on scheduled hours and New America’s applicable benefit plans.
New America offers a highly competitive benefits package that includes health care, dental, and vision coverage; a generous retirement plan; paid time off; observes all federal holidays; and an office-wide closure between Christmas and New Year’s Day.
Los Angeles- or New York-based candidates are preferred, though applicants based elsewhere in the United States are also encouraged to apply.
We do not expect this role to involve extensive travel, but occasional trips to Los Angeles and New York, as well as to film festivals in other cities, may be required depending on the initiative's needs and other team members’ travel schedules.
New America is an equal-opportunity employer committed to hiring a diverse workforce at all levels of the organization, thereby creating a culture that allows us to better serve our clientele, our employees, and our communities. All qualified applicants will receive consideration for employment without regard to race, national origin, age, sex, religion, disability, sexual orientation, marital status, veteran status, gender identity or expression, or any other basis protected by local, state, or federal law.
