Job summary

The Washington State Department of Labor & Industries is seeking a Communications Consultant 4 to coordinate updates, design, translation, publication, and distribution of public-facing materials tied to workers’ compensation changes. You’ll craft messages, plan media outreach, and ensure accessibility across formats.

Remote-friendly with periodic in-person requirements; one-year term; contribute to a broad communications program and collaborate with multiple teams to reach diverse audiences.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in English, communications, journalism, public relations, or related field and three years of writing or editing experience; or equivalent education/experience.
• Excellent verbal, writing and editing skills, including the ability to explain technical subjects in plain language.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate updating, redesign, and publication of about 60 forms and publications related to workers’ rights under the workers’ compensation system.
• Identify key messages, create a project plan for updates, craft messages and a communication plan for digital and traditional media outreach.
• Ensure messages reach target audiences using earned media, digital media, and L&I’s website.
• Develop talking points and background materials; coordinate with stakeholders on communication, marketing, and education efforts.
• Conceptualize and create digital media content; write and edit copy, website content, and other publications; create translated versions with language access team.
• Produce and distribute video and social media content; identify audiences and strategies for digital media to educate the public about changes and agency initiatives.
