Job summary

Affiliated Engineers, Inc. (AEI) seeks a Senior Commissioning Engineer for our Chapel Hill, NC office. You will lead commissioning activities across disciplines to deliver energy-efficient building solutions and validated performance.

The role emphasizes collaboration with clients and project teams to optimize systems and ensure compliance. Ideal candidates hold a bachelor’s degree in engineering, a PE license, and extensive commissioning experience.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering from an accredited program.
• Extensive knowledge of commissioning processes and commissioning process delivery.
• Fundamental knowledge of construction processes and project delivery models.
• Proficient in application of applicable technologies including computer/software, data loggers, test and measurement equipment.
• Professional Engineering license (PE) in one or more states or minimum of 10 years in a commissioning related practice.
• Commissioning certification with a nationally recognized professional body.

Responsibilities

• Develop and coordinate system test procedures and organize user training sessions.
• Administer functional performance tests and conduct field observations.
• Attend progress meetings and assist in document control.
• Coordinate commissioning activities across disciplines including fire protection, HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, and technology systems.
• Mentor and support team members, delegate work, and provide feedback.
• Apply safety training to construction situations and ensure safe work practices.

As a Senior Commissioning Engineer in our Chapel Hill office, you will help us empower our clients to achieve energy-efficient building solutions, save global environments, and create a better, greener future for all.

Why We Need You:

In this role, you will carry out activities related to project construction and contract administration including developing and coordinating system test procedures, organizing user training sessions, administering functional performance tests, conducting field observations, attending progress meetings, and assisting in document control.

Expertise of our most successful Senior Commissioning Engineer:

• Bachelor’s degree in mechanical, electrical, or architectural engineering (or another engineering discipline) from an accredited program.


• Functional knowledge of building systems across disciplines including fire protection, HVAC, plumbing/piping, electrical, technology, instrumentation and controls, process or lighting systems.


• Understanding of applicable codes, standards and specification requirements, and ability to interpret them.


• Extensive knowledge of commissioning processes and commissioning process delivery.


• Fundamental knowledge of construction processes and project delivery models.


• Proficient in application of applicable technologies including computer/software, data loggers, test and measurement equipment.


• Professional Engineering license (PE) in one or more states or minimum of 10 years in a commissioning related practice.


• Commissioning certification with a nationally recognized professional body.


• Valid driver’s license and state required vehicle insurance.
