Job summary

Talent Harbor is seeking a hands-on Commissioning Engineer to lead field testing and commissioning for complex commercial, institutional, federal, industrial, and DoD facilities.

You’ll test HVAC/MEP systems, building controls, and sequences of operations, troubleshoot issues, document deficiencies, and drive corrective actions on projects in the Southeast. This role requires significant travel and strong collaboration with owners, contractors, and design teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical or Electrical Engineering or related field.
• Experience in commissioning and field testing of complex facilities.
• Proficiency with sequences of operation and test procedures.

Responsibilities

• Lead commissioning from field testing to final closeout.
• Perform functional & integrated systems testing (HVAC/MEP, electrical, life safety).
• Troubleshoot, identify root causes, and document deficiencies.
• Mentor junior engineers and lead project teams.
• Travel 35–50% for projects across Alabama, Southeast, and national assignments.

Are you the engineer people call when a building system isn’t working the way it should?

We’re looking for a hands‑on Commissioning Engineer to lead and execute commissioning for complex commercial, institutional, federal, industrial, and DoD facilities.

This is not a design-only role. You’ll be in the field testing systems, troubleshooting issues, finding root causes, and making sure everything works together as intended.

What You’ll Work On

• Building commissioning from design review through final closeout
• Functional & integrated systems testing
• HVAC/MEP systems, electrical distribution, emergency power & life safety
• Building Automation Systems (BAS) and controls — Johnson Controls, Siemens, or similar
• Sequences of operation, test procedures & integrated test matrices
• Troubleshooting using field observations, testing data & BAS trends
• Working directly with owners, contractors, designers & engineering teams
• Leading commissioning meetings, documenting deficiencies and driving corrective actions
• Mentoring junior engineers and taking ownership of projects
• Hands‑on building commissioning & functional testing experience
• Experience with sequences of operations and commissioning test procedures
• Strong troubleshooting and root‑cause analysis skills
• MEP experience, particularly HVAC/mechanical + building controls
• Exposure to electrical distribution, emergency power & life‑safety systems
• Experience with commercial, institutional, federal or similarly complex facilities
• Ability to independently lead/execute commissioning in the field
• Strong communication and ability to work independently
• U.S. Citizenship + ability to pass a criminal background investigation
• Willingness to travel approximately 35–50%
• Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering or related field strongly preferred
• Commissioning certifications: CxA, BCxP, CCP, NEBB BSC
• PE license or ability to obtain
• Energy efficiency, energy engineering or facility engineering experience
• Experience with hospitals, universities, campuses, manufacturing or other large/complex facilities

$120K–$150K base + flexibility for highly qualified candidates
