Job summary

Qualifications

• Strong troubleshooting and documentation skills are necessary.

Responsibilities

• Perform building systems commissioning and functional performance testing on new and renovated facilities.
• Review drawings, specifications, submittals, commissioning requirements and sequences of operation.
• Verify installation, startup, operation, and performance of HVAC, electrical, plumbing, BAS/DDC controls.
• Develop commissioning plans, checklists, test procedures, and functional tests.
• Conduct site inspections, equipment verification and readiness reviews.
• Test and troubleshoot building automation systems to identify issues and document resolutions.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, controls vendors, TAB contractors, and facility teams.
• Produce commissioning reports, field docs, deficiency logs, and closeout documentation.

Our client, an established multidisciplinary engineering and consulting firm, is expanding its Commissioning (Cx) team across Georgia, Florida, and North Carolina.

About the Role

• Locations: Georgia | Florida | North Carolina
• Employment Type: Full-Time Employee

• Travel: Primarily Local Projects + Expected Travel
• Sector: MEP Engineering / Building Commissioning (Cx)

This is a full-time employee position paid on an hourly basis, with overtime, offering the opportunity to work predominantly on projects within your local market while traveling to other project sites when required.

The role is ideal for someone with strong technical knowledge of building systems who enjoys being in the field, troubleshooting systems, and seeing projects through from design and construction to testing, commissioning, and final handover.

You’ll work across technically complex facilities, potentially including healthcare, laboratories, higher education, commercial buildings, manufacturing, aviation, and mission-critical environments, commissioning mechanical, electrical, plumbing, controls, and associated building systems.

Responsibilities

• Perform building systems commissioning and functional performance testing on new construction and renovation projects.
• Review engineering drawings, specifications, submittals, commissioning requirements, and sequences of operation.
• Verify the installation, startup, operation, and performance of HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, BAS/DDC controls, and associated building systems.
• Develop and execute commissioning plans, checklists, test procedures, and functional performance tests.
• Conduct site inspections, equipment verification, and system readiness reviews.
• Test and troubleshoot building automation systems and control sequences to identify operational and performance issues.
• Coordinate with engineers, contractors, controls vendors, TAB contractors, facility teams, and project owners.
• Identify, document, and track commissioning deficiencies through resolution.
• Support Testing, Adjusting & Balancing (TAB) activities and review TAB documentation.
• Produce accurate commissioning reports, field documentation, deficiency logs, and project closeout documentation.
• Support retro-commissioning and existing-building performance projects where required.
• Help ensure building systems are safe, reliable, maintainable, energy-efficient, and performing in accordance with the design intent and owner requirements.

Qualifications

• An engineering or relevant technical degree is beneficial, although candidates with substantial hands‑on commissioning, controls, construction, or facilities experience are also encouraged to apply.

Required Skills

• Professional experience within building commissioning, MEP engineering, HVAC, controls, TAB, construction, facilities engineering, or a closely related technical discipline.
• Strong practical understanding of one or more major building systems, particularly HVAC/mechanical, electrical, plumbing, BAS/DDC controls, or life‑safety systems.
• Experience with functional performance testing, system startup, equipment verification, troubleshooting, and/or commissioning documentation.
• Ability to interpret engineering drawings, specifications, control diagrams, and sequences of operation.
• Strong troubleshooting ability and an understanding of how individual building systems interact as part of a complete facility.
• Comfortable working hands‑on in the field and on active construction/project sites.
• Ability to communicate effectively with contractors, engineers, controls specialists, facility personnel, and owners.
• Strong written communication and technical documentation skills.
• Ability to manage commissioning activities and follow identified issues through to resolution.
• Local project work will form a significant part of the position; however, candidates must be willing and able to travel to project sites when required.

Preferred Skills

• Experience within complex environments such as healthcare, laboratories, higher education, manufacturing, aviation, commercial facilities, or data centers is highly desirable.
• Experience with retro‑commissioning, TAB, BAS/DDC controls, LEED commissioning, or ongoing building performance is advantageous.
• Relevant credentials such as PE, BCxP, CxA, CCP, LEED AP, or TAB certifications are advantageous.

Pay range and compensation package

• Compensation: Hourly Pay + Overtime
