Job Description

We are seeking a highly experienced Senior Commercial Property Claims Adjuster to manage a specialized caseload within the insurance industry. This remote role requires handling approximately 40 existing claims, primarily for licensed cannabis operations, including cultivation, manufacturing, dispensaries, labs, and distribution warehouses. The successful candidate will act as the primary liaison between third-party administrators (TPAs) and carrier clients, ensuring compliance with carrier authority requirements and providing clear documentation for reserves, settlements, coverage, and litigations. The role involves investigating losses such as fire, water, theft, vandalism, equipment breakdown, contamination, weather damage and business interruptions. It requires thorough analysis of coverage, damages, and reserves, along with negotiation of settlements and identification of fraud indicators, salvage, and recovery opportunities. The position demands maintaining detailed documentation, participating in claim reviews and providing concise updates to stakeholders.

Responsibilities
  • Manage the end-to-end process of commercial property claims from existing caseloads with no new claims assigned.
  • Act as the primary contact and advocate between the TPA and carrier clients, ensuring all reporting, documentation and escalation requirements are met.
  • Investigate various types of losses including fire, water, theft, vandalism, equipment breakdown and environmental contamination.
  • Analyze coverage issues, including endorsements, exclusions, valuation, deductibles, coinsurance and cannabis-specific factors such as plant valuation and security safeguards.
  • Evaluate damages, business income and extra expenses, then set appropriate reserves while developing strategic settlement options within authority limits.
  • Negotiate claim settlements and identify opportunities for subrogation, salvage and recovery.
  • Maintain compliance through strong file documentation, timely follow-ups and participation in claim reviews.
  • Provide transparent and professional communication to all stakeholders, including carriers, insureds, brokers, attorneys, experts, and vendors.
Requirements
  • 5+ years of commercial property claims experience handling complex and high-severity claims, preferably within the restaurant, bar or tavern industry
  • Cannabis claims experience (strongly preferred); candidates with substantial commercial property experience and the ability to quickly develop industry expertise will also be considered
  • Active adjuster license in the candidate’s state of residence or designated home state license
  • Strong knowledge of commercial property coverage interpretation, damages, reserving and settlement processes
  • Experience managing business income and extra expense claims
  • Familiarity with insurance claims software and estimating platforms such as Xactimate
  • Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with a focus on detailed documentation and stakeholder collaboration
  • Ability to manage multiple claims, prioritize deadlines and adapt to evolving industry risks
