Job summary

Powers & Sons Construction in Gary, Indiana, is seeking an experienced Project Manager to lead the planning and execution of commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.

You will coordinate with owners, architects, engineers, trade partners, and field teams, driving safety, quality, schedule, and client-service outcomes while mentoring junior staff and maintaining strong stakeholder relationships.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in construction management, engineering, architecture, business, or related field.
• Five or more years of commercial construction project management experience.
• Experience managing projects through the full construction lifecycle.
• Strong knowledge of contracts, drawings, specifications, scheduling, estimating, procurement, and cost control.
• Experience with subcontractors, change orders, owner relationships, and project financial performance.
• Ability to lead multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
• Strong written, verbal, organizational, and interpersonal communication skills.
• Proficiency with construction management, scheduling, estimating, and Microsoft Office.
• Experience with public, institutional, education, healthcare, civic, industrial, or similar projects preferred.
• OSHA 30 certification or ability to obtain it.

Responsibilities

• Lead commercial construction projects from preconstruction through closeout.
• Develop, maintain, and manage budgets, forecasts, schedules, and execution plans.
• Coordinate with Superintendents to align field operations, safety, quality, and sequencing.
• Manage owner and design-team communications, meetings, reports, and decisions.
• Review documents to identify risks, gaps, and coordination requirements.
• Lead subcontractor procurement, bid evaluation, contracts, and awards.
• Manage subcontracts, purchase orders, changes, and cost documentation.
• Monitor financial performance: costs, cash flow, and profitability.
• Manage RFIs, submittals, change docs, minutes, logs, and controls.
• Identify issues early and develop corrective action plans.
• Maintain relationships with clients, architects, consultants, and partners.
• Support pursuits, estimating, and preconstruction planning as needed.
• Mentor junior project staff and team members.
• Ensure compliance with policies, safety expectations, and regulations.
• Lead project closeout, punch lists, training, warranties, and financial reconciliation.
