Job summary

Fairmont Austin seeks a Commercial HVAC, Refrigeration, and Kitchen Equipment Technician to join our Engineering team. You will install, repair, and maintain HVAC, refrigeration, and food service equipment across the property, ensuring safe and efficient operations.

Ideal candidates are detail-oriented, safety-focused, and able to work independently or with the team, while supporting hotel operations and mentoring colleagues.

Qualifications

• HVAC/Refrigeration certification preferred.
• EPA Universal Certification required.
• Minimum of 5 years of experience maintaining and repairing commercial HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.
• Strong knowledge of HVAC, refrigeration, kitchen equipment, components, and applicable safety standards.
• Proficient in troubleshooting, diagnostic tools, and reading blueprints/diagrams.
• Excellent problem-solving, organizational, and record keeping skills with strong attention to detail.
• Ability to work independently and collaboratively, prioritize multiple tasks, and respond effectively to emergency repairs.
• Physical ability to lift heavy equipment and work in a variety of indoor and outdoor environments.
• Willingness to work a flexible schedule, including evenings, weekends, and holidays as business needs require.
• Ability to train and mentor fellow Engineering colleagues.
• Well-rounded technical proficiency across engineering disciplines with a strong foundation in mechanical, electrical, and building maintenance systems.
• Previous hotel or hospitality engineering experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Install, maintain, troubleshoot, repair, and perform preventive maintenance on HVAC, refrigeration, and kitchen equipment.
• Diagnose mechanical, electrical, and refrigeration system issues; replace defective components; test for leaks; calibrate equipment.
• Read and interpret blueprints, wiring diagrams, technical manuals, and equipment specifications to complete repairs accurately.
• Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, work orders, parts used, and equipment performance.
• Ensure compliance with safety standards and environmental regulations, including refrigerants disposal.
• Monitor and maintain inventory of parts, tools, and supplies.
• Respond to service calls promptly; complete tasks within established standards while maintaining a safe area.
• Communicate repair status and recommendations with supervisors and colleagues.
• Provide professional service to internal/external guests while supporting hotel operations.
• Train and mentor Engineering team members as needed.
• Assist with general Engineering functions including basic mechanical, electrical, plumbing, carpentry, and painting.
• Prioritize multiple assignments while maintaining quality, efficiency, and safety.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
