Job summary

HNTB in San Jose, CA is seeking a Senior Commercial Manager to lead contract administration, risk management, and change control on mega transportation projects ranging from $500M to over $1B. You will act as an on-site liaison, coordinate with technical and legal teams, and ensure compliance with contract provisions.

The role emphasizes mentorship of project staff, drafting technical memos, and reviewing subcontracting and insurance provisions.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering, Construction Management, Legal Studies or related field, and
• 15 years of project management, contract drafting & negotiation, construction claims resolution or related experience.
• Experience with complex transit projects.
• Proven ability to mentor and train project staff on contract interpretation and policy application.

Responsibilities

• Provides commercial support on resolving project issues, including application of contract provisions and draft analyses.
• Draft and co-draft technical memos, policy papers, and issue analyses codifying recommendations, contract position taken, or resolution documents.
• Reviews correspondence with project team and owner to develop responses.
• Oversees the project team’s review of submittal responses, participates in meetings, and coordinates project communication.
• Assists in the resolution of potential change orders, disputes, and provides claims support.
• Performs audits and identifies nonconformities, opportunities for improvement, and corrective actions.
• Mentors and trains staff on contract interpretation and policy application.
• Recommends revisions to contract policies and provisions; drafts corresponding provisions.
• Recruits, hires and develops staff, and coordinates timecards.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
