Job summary

KeyBank is seeking a Commercial Credit Underwriter to gather, analyze, and interpret credit information for existing and prospective customers, determining credit worthiness. You will structure new credit requests, complete extensions and renewals, and provide well‑reasoned recommendations within delegated authority.

Under supervision, you will assess risk, prepare underwriting packages, and maintain credit files while collaborating with field partners.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent in finance, accounting, economics and/or business (required)
• Minimum of 2 years of commercial underwriting or banking/financial services experience (required)
• Competent with Microsoft Office and ability to learn other technology applications (required)
• Understanding of financial models (required)
• Ability to gather research, analyze data, and synthesize information to assess creditworthiness (required)
• Understanding of underwriting methodologies, policies and procedures (required)
• Strong presentation and communication skills (required)
• Ability to plan, multi-task, and work with limited supervision (required)

Responsibilities

• Evaluate loan requests to identify purpose, risk elements, and collateral adequacy.
• Assess liquidity, management quality, market position, industry, and business climate to estimate future profitability.
• Analyze financial statements and tax returns to determine creditworthiness and risk.
• Input and interpret risk rating model output and client data to develop a credit recommendation.
• Develop credit write-ups and document findings for loan structuring decisions.
• Identify deteriorating credits early and provide recommendations for restructuring.
• Review loan documentation to ensure terms match credit approvals.
• Create and maintain credit files and spreadsheets to support underwriting analysis.
• Provide portfolio administration and risk rating updates for timely reporting.
• Mentor and train Credit Analysts and collaborate with bankers to improve processes.
• Participate in periodic projects related to risk management policy changes.
• Comply with KeyBank policies and code of conduct.
