OpenAI is seeking an Associate General Counsel in San Francisco to lead commercial legal strategy for silicon initiatives and the broader semiconductor ecosystem supporting our AI infrastructure. We seek a lawyer with 12+ years of experience, a CA JD, and a track record of advising senior leaders on complex commercial matters.

Qualifications

12+ years of legal experience in technology transactions and commercial contracting.
JD and license to practice in California.
In-house and top-tier law firm experience preferred.
Background in technology, infrastructure, manufacturing, or supply chain.
Experience structuring and negotiating high-value development and strategic partnerships.
Strong judgment managing commercial, IP, confidentiality, and regulatory risk.

Responsibilities

Lead commercial legal strategy and risk management for OpenAI’s silicon initiatives.
Advise senior stakeholders on strategic relationships and complex transactions.
Draft, negotiate, and advise on development, manufacturing, supply, licensing, services, and partnerships agreements.
Structure commercial arrangements supporting long-term business and operational needs.
Collaborate with IP counsel and specialists on ownership, licensing, confidentiality, and tech matters.
Identify and manage material commercial, regulatory, and supply-chain risks across programs.
