Job summary

The City of Philadelphia Law Department is seeking a Deputy City Solicitor with five or more years of litigation experience for the Code & Public Nuisance Litigation Unit. The attorney would bring affirmative litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas and represent the City before boards, while managing a large caseload and handling emergency injunctive actions.

The position requires a law degree from an ABA-accredited school, PA Bar eligibility, and strong writing/research skills.

Qualifications

• Five or more years of litigation experience in a public or government setting.
• Law degree from an ABA-accredited law school and eligibility for Pennsylvania Bar admission.
• Strong research and writing skills with ability to manage large caseloads.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent the City of Philadelphia before government agencies and in legal matters.
• Present evidence to defend clients or prosecute defendants in code enforcement litigation.
• Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges, and others involved in the case.
• Conduct legal research and analysis of problems.
• Prepare and file legal documents and appellate briefs.
• Negotiate settlements and manage administrative functions related to practice.
