Job summary

The City of Philadelphia is seeking an entry-level Assistant City Solicitor for the Tort Litigation Unit to defend the City and its employees in tort matters, primarily in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas.

You will manage a large caseload of arbitration cases, conduct depositions, engage experts, draft pleadings, and participate in discovery and motions under supervision, with a strong emphasis on public service and professional growth.

Qualifications

• Must have a law degree from an ABA accredited law school.
• Must be a member in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar, or eligible to be admitted by reciprocity to practice in Pennsylvania.
• Entry level position; one year plus of relevant legal experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent the City of Philadelphia and its employees before government agencies and in legal matters.
• Present evidence to defend clients or prosecute defendants in tort litigation.
• Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges and others involved in the case.
• Conduct research and analysis of legal problems.
• Interpret laws, rulings, and regulations for individuals and government agencies.
• Prepare and file legal documents and dispositive motions.
• Manage caseloads and deadlines from initial pleading through settlement or trial.
