Job summary

City of Philadelphia’s Law Department seeks an entry-level attorney for tort litigation in the Philadelphia Court of Common Pleas. You will defend the City and its employees in premises liability, motor vehicle, and property damage claims, manage arbitration cases, and conduct discovery, depositions, and dispositive motions.

The role requires a law degree from an ABA-accredited school and PA Bar eligibility or admission.

Qualifications

• Juris Doctor degree from ABA-accredited law school required.
• Membership in good standing of the Pennsylvania Bar or eligibility by reciprocity preferred.
• Entry-level position with preference for 1+ year legal experience.

Responsibilities

• Advise and represent the City of Philadelphia and its employees before government agencies.
• Present evidence to defend clients or prosecute defendants in tort litigation.
• Communicate with clients, colleagues, judges and others involved in the case.
• Conduct research and analysis of legal problems.
• Study federal, state, and local laws, ordinances, and regulations.
• Interpret laws and present facts in writing and verbally to arbitrators, mediators, opposing parties, judges, or juries.
