Job summary

The City of Dallas is seeking a Code Enforcement Officer III (Sanitation Enforcement) to perform specialized inspections and enforce municipal codes within city boundaries. You will schedule inspections, investigate violations, and issue notices and citations as needed.

Responsibilities include public education on regulations, data gathering, and coordinating with developers. Travel within the city and occasional testimony at hearings are expected.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Two years of experience interpreting and enforcing codes.
• Valid driver’s license with clean driving record.
• Current TDLR Code Enforcement Officer license.
• Spanish/English bilingual skills preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Conducts specialized, technical inspections on city properties and developments to ensure compliance with regulations.
• Identifies and documents non-compliant issues; investigates violations and tracks corrective actions.
• Investigates problems and recommends corrective actions; communicates with developers and others to address violations.
• Creates notices of violation, photographs evidence, issues citations, and responds to complaints.
• Educates the public on laws and regulations; interprets and applies code standards.
• Drafts and maintains inspection documents; tracks service requests and progress.
• Oversees and trains lower level officers; provides quality control over inspections.
• Travels throughout the city to perform inspections and may testify in hearings or trials.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
