Job summary

The City of Poway is seeking an experienced Senior Code Compliance Officer to lead complex field inspections, investigations, and enforcement across municipal codes, zoning, and health and safety standards. The role coordinates several departments, prepares detailed reports, and leads abatement and legal actions as required.

Key duties include supervising staff, handling citizen complaints, issuing notices and citations, and presenting testimony at nuisance abatement hearings.

Qualifications

• Five years of enforcing municipal, zoning, and/or building codes with a public agency.
• Supervisory experience is preferred.
• Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
• Valid Class C driver’s license is required.
• Possession of or ability to obtain California PC 832 certification within six months.

Responsibilities

• Investigates complaints of code violations and enforces municipal, zoning, building, health and safety codes.
• Prepares courtesy notices, notices of violation, and citations; communicates with property owners.
• Coordinates abatement actions, hearings, and legal actions as needed; conducts follow‑up investigations.
• Trains and supervises staff; reviews work and provides technical guidance.
• Maintains records, prepares reports, and monitors program budgets and priorities.
