GFT in Chicago, IL is seeking a Senior Coastal Engineer – Technical Lead to join our Geotechnical Dams & Hydraulics Team. This highly technical leadership role combines office and remote work with regular in-person collaboration at our Chicago office.

You will lead coastal and hydraulic projects, mentor staff, set design criteria, and provide senior QA/QC. A PE license and 20+ years of coastal engineering experience are required; Delft3D, ADCIRC, SWAN, MIKE, HEC-RAS, or XBeach experience is

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil, Coastal, Ocean, Water Resources Engineering or related field; advanced degree preferred.
• 20+ years of relevant engineering experience in coastal and hydraulic engineering.
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required.
• Experience with coastal modeling tools (Delft3D, ADCIRC, SWAN, MIKE, HEC-RAS, XBeach).
• Ability to lead complex analyses and designs; mentor staff and communicate with clients.

Responsibilities

• Serve as technical lead for coastal and hydraulic projects.
• Lead analyses, modeling, design, and technical decisions for complex coastal projects.
• Provide expertise in coastal processes, waves, tides, currents, storm surge, flooding, sediment transport, erosion, scour and hydraulics.
• Lead or review hydrodynamic, wave, coastal, and hydraulic modeling.
• Develop shoreline protection and waterfront infrastructure, dredging and flood protection projects.
• Establish design criteria, technical approaches, and engineering standards.
• Provide senior QA/QC and technical reviews of calculations, models, reports, plans and specs.
• Mentor engineers and grow the coastal engineering team; represent the firm in technical meetings.
• Support project pursuits, technical proposals and development of opportunities.
