Overview
An established die casting manufacturer with a long operating history and strong tier-one OEM partnerships is seeking a Senior CNC Setup Technician to support its 3rd shift, high-volume automated machining department. This direct-hire role is critical to setting up equipment, editing offsets, and troubleshooting dimensional quality on complex, high-precision aluminum cast components.
What you'll do
- Perform setups and changeovers on multi-axis CNC mills and lathes used to finish high-precision aluminum die cast components
- Load G-code programs, adjust tool offsets, and make real-time process modifications to maintain tight part tolerances
- Diagnose surface finish defects, dimensional variations, and chatter caused by tool wear, fixture misalignment, or material inconsistencies
- Measure finished parts using calipers, micrometers, height gages, depth indicators, and CMM inspection reports
- Replace worn cutting tools, carbide inserts, drills, and taps while monitoring tool life to prevent scrap and downtime
- Support routine daily machine care, coolant fluid management, and basic mechanical troubleshooting
- Log production counts, quality control metrics, tool wear records, and setup adjustments accurately
Required qualifications
- Demonstrated career stability with a minimum of 2+ years of tenure at each previous employer
- Proven hands‑on experience setting up, operating, and troubleshooting CNC machining centers in a production environment
- Ability to read blueprints, interpret engineering drawings, and proficiently use precision hand inspection tools
- Must reside within a maximum commute of 45 minutes of the Cedarburg, WI area
- High School Diploma or GED required
- Must be fully authorized to work in the United States without sponsorship (U.S. work authorization)
Preferred qualifications
- Aluminum machining or casting experience preferred
- Technical/vocational machining credentials preferred
- Working knowledge of Geometric Dimensioning & Tolerancing (GD&T) and interpreting CMM quality data
- Experience working with multi-axis horizontal/vertical machining centers and integrated robotic cell loading
- Prior machining experience within automotive, powersports, or tier-one industrial supplier environments
