Job summary

General Dynamics Electric Boat in Groton, CT, seeks an experienced NC programmer to support complex submarine components. You will develop 2–5 axis programs, select tooling, and optimize speeds and feeds for a high‑mix, low‑volume shop environment.

The role requires strong G‑code expertise, GD&T knowledge per ASME Y14.5, and the ability to lead first‑article runs on diverse machinery. ISO 9001 certification experience is preferred.

Qualifications

• High school diploma or GED required.
• 5+ years machinist experience in a high‑mix, low‑volume shop.
• 5+ years setup and operation of CNC machinery.
• Strong understanding of standard G‑Codes and M‑Codes.
• Experience machining large/complex components.

Responsibilities

• Generate NC programs for CNC machining of parts.
• Analyze drawings and design data for manufacturing needs.
• Select tooling and cutting parameters for efficiency.
• Create 2–5 axis programs for complex parts.
• Estimate process time for setup and machining.
• Troubleshoot and resolve programming issues on the shop floor.
• Review travelers/routers and suggest process changes.
• Interpret mechanical drawings and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).
• Compute angles and distances for tooling and offsets.
• Lead first‑article runs and adjust offsets to hit tolerances.
