Vast Space Llc. in Long Beach, CA, seeks a Senior Manager of Fluid Systems Design to lead the propulsion, TCS and ECLSS design efforts for Haven-class space stations and modules.

You will guide a multi‑discipline team, translating architecture choices into vehicle packaging and ensuring robust, flight‑ready designs. Reporting to the VP of Fluid Systems Engineering, you will own component-level design practices, drive cross‑functional collaboration, and manage risk as designs move through CDR and

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering or science.
• 8+ years in system design with flight hardware authority.
• 2+ years leading a technical engineering team.
• Experience in propulsion, thermal or ECLSS systems.
• Experience with high‑pressure fluid systems.
• Familiarity with P&IDs, ConOps, fill and drain considerations for vehicle integration.
• Strong cross‑functional communication skills.
• Experience supporting design reviews (CDR, PDR).

Responsibilities

• Lead design team translating architecture choices for propulsion, TCS and ECLSS systems into vehicle packaging.
• Own component-level design practices for propulsion, TCS and ECLSS.
• Develop process tools to streamline design activities and empower engineers.
• Lead designers across the fluid systems team and build cross‑system experience.
• Interface with structures design regarding vehicle integration and standard modeling practices.
• Collaborate with fluid system analysis on structural, fracture, dynamics requirements.
• Partner with test team to design ground support equipment and test stands.
• Build and mentor a team of design engineers with clear ownership.
• Drive communication between fluid systems, structures, and operations to resolve challenges.
• Support risk management, CDR/dCDR tracking, and lessons‑learned capture.
• Coordinate with information systems on design tools.
• Manage interfaces with external partners and government agencies on propulsion requirements.
• Coordinate with external research partners on advanced system development and evaluations.
